Belle Mare

Well, this is nice. Belle Mare are a male/female duo from Brooklyn whose debut, The Boat of the Fragile Mind EP, will be out April 9. The EP was recorded at home and reminds very much of Chelsea Wolfe, with Amelia Bushell's voice rather muted and distant, all sorts of swirling space seemingly coming between the band and their mics.

At present, they are only performing in New York:

Today in "What has Greg Ashley been up to?"

As of July 2012, Greg's been producing bands like Tel Aviv's Manicorn, a lo-fi, humorous rock duo whose new record will be released within approximately twelve hours. Here's a taste.

Eilam Wolman and Roy Chen have summed up their production experience with Ashley in a simple but hearty "fuck yeah!" And in just a bit, you'll be able to find the sum of their efforts on the Manicorn website.

As an aside, Greg Ashley's recording studio, the Creamery, will be packed up as Ashley relocates from Oakland back to Austin, Texas. On a nicer note, for you musician types, his rates are damn cheap!

They keep getting younger (New Marika Hackman)

After having released an EP of covers, Brighton's Marika Hackman will be releasing a new EP, That Iron Taste, produced by Alt-J producer Charlie Andrew, on Feb. 25.

Alternate version of "Retina Television" can be seen and heard here:

Gun Outfit is touring, hurrah!

Quite liking the lead-in to the third album by Gun Outfit, a group out of Olympia, Washington; they share a label with several artists who used to frequent venues like the Smell (BARR, Mika Miko, Abe Vigoda), and very much resemble what was right with music in the late '90s/early '00s. Vocalist Carrie Keith is flat as can be, and surely, it's no bother to her. This is marvelous, effortless alternative rock.

AC4. Dennis returns!

Between the cartoonish direction taken by the (International) Noise Conspiracy, no doubt leading to its inevitable end, and a well-received reunion that gave many, many people a chance to fall in love with Refused a second time, Dennis Lyxzén came to realize that hardcore is his calling. And perhaps out of nostalgia, perhaps out of boredom, he started fronting a new band, AC4 (with former Refused bandmate David Sandstrom). AC4 is set to release a record called Burn the World (yes, wah wah) on March 18, on Deathwish Inc./Ny Våg.

Mid-life crisis?
